MacRumors Forums hacked, 860,000+ users data compromised

MacRumors community forums have been breached by hackers who managed to obtain the information belonging to 860106 consumers that includes hashed passwords.

“In cases like this, it can be very best to presume that your MacRumors Forum username, email handle and (hashed) password is now regarded.” Editorial Director Arnold Kim wrote.

The hacker who behind the assault also created a article in MacRumors discussion board about the breach saying “We are not ‘mass cracking’ the hashes. It would not take prolonged in any way to run a hash through hashcat with a couple dictionaries and salts, and get final results.”

Hackers also claimed that they are not going to use the compromised credentials to log into gmail, apple accounts or any other accounts except if they target customers specifically for some cause.

“Cease worrying, and cease blaming it on Macrumors when it was your own fault for reusing passwords in the first place.” the hacker added.

It seems hackers have gained accessibility to the database by logging into the discussion board with the stolen qualifications of a one moderator.
