Supermarket chain Spar was forced to close some of its stores in UK due to a cyber attack leaving some stores without the ability to take payments by card.
Spar UK tweeted that about the online attack in their IT systems which has affected the store’s ability to process card payments leading to the shutdown of several Spar stores.
The retailer that has 2600 locations in UK is working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.
Some stores were having issues since Sunday which indicates that this is a multi-day incident and one customer commented that stores with accompanying petrol stations were closed.
It is not clear about the type of online attack and according to a Spar spokesperson, a number of stores have been affected by a cyber attack against James Hall & Co Ltd, a business which supplies Spar stores across the North of England.
James Hall & Company are currently aware of an online attack on it’s IT system. This has not affected all SPAR stores across the North of England, but a number have been impacted over the past 24 hours.
